A guy is down on his luck. He takes his last $500 and goes to Las Vegas.

Overnight, he has a fantastic run of luck. He stumbles out of the casino and finds a pay phone. He calls his wife and says, "Honey, pack your bags. I just won over a million dollars in Vegas."

The Southern-style saloon, based on the legendary New York City bar and film of the same name, has wooden floors and walls, and wooden bars with no chairs or bar stools. Coyote Ugly's trademark is the sexy female bartenders who get up on the bar and dance, sing and encourage patrons to drink more alcohol. Surprisingly, you will find a pretty even mix of men and women. The men come to ogle the "Coyotes," and the women come to let loose and dance. Women are encouraged to get up on the bar and cavort with the bartenders. Sorry, men aren't allowed on the bar. Of course, with all the women to look at, most don't seem to mind.
Women are also encouraged to leave their undergarments behind for the "Bra Wall of Fame." Guys are a little more reserved -- they simply leave neckties behind instead.
There is no DJ at the bar, but there is a jukebox with plenty of loud classic and contemporary rock music - everything from AC/DC and Limp Bizkit to Kid Rock. Conversation is nearly impossible over the music, unless you go into the back room where there are some places to sit and escape the rowdy front bar.
Coyote Ugly does not serve mixed drinks, only shots and beer, but there is a daiquiri bar outside Coyote Ugly selling frozen drinks for about $4. However, the drinks cannot be brought back into the club.

Goodbye Aladdin...

Rebuilt on top of its own ruins, the Aladdin Hotel and Casino was destroyed in 1998 and rebuilt. The Aladdin casino, with its rich decor and multiple levels, was very innovative. There was also is a shopping complex called the Desert Passage. Everywhere you turn, you were feel magic around you, from the ebony racing horses to Ginny lamps in the middle of the casino.

At the Craps table
When the shooter's point is a six or eight occasionally throw a dollar chip down on the layout and say "Hard six for the boys" or "Hard eight for the boys". It's a dollar bet that pays $10.00 if the next six or eight is thrown "the hard ways" (as doubles) and it's a way to not only tip the dealers but get them into the action. (Note that if the number your hard bet is on is shot easy, i.e. not as doubles, the dealers don't get the dollar, the house does, but the dealers still appreciate your getting them in the action.) Another way to get the dealers in on the action is to place a chip next to your chip(s) on the Pass Line. This is a Pass Line bet for the dealers. When you do this, the stickman will often say "Dealers on the line". (I usually do this when it's my turn to shoot the dice.) Another alternative is to simply throw about 5% to 10% of any winnings down on the layout "for the boys" as an out-right tip when you're ending your session.

At the Blackjack table
Tip the dealer a buck or two out-right (when playing $5.00 or $10.00 hands) if they deal a "natural" (ace and a ten-value card). If the dealer has been dealing a good percentage of winning hands then occasionally place a $5 chip on the layout between your bet and the dealer. This is a bet for the dealer getting them into the action. You can also do the "end of session" 5% to 10% thing mentioned above.

Slots
If you like playing the slots, ask the slot attendants (located in the center of a large carousel of machines) or roving change attendants which machines are "loose". They're around those machines all day and have no problem helping you get some of the boss' money. But be sure to tip them if you walk away a winner.

Cocktail Waitress
Drinks are free while you're gambling. Usually you could give the cocktail waitress a $1.00 chip or $1.00 slot coin or $1.00 bill each time she brings a drink.

Shuttle Bus Driver
The standard for airport shuttle bus drivers is $1.00 or $2.00 a bag.
Tipping drivers of the free shuttles which run between hotels is at your discretion. They often have a cup near the front of the bus for the tips but you also could hand $1.00 to them directly.
The shuttle bus drivers for the various off-Strip activities will often return you directly to your hotel rather than to the central pick-up point so tipping them for this time-saving service would be appropriate also.

Bellman
$1.00 to $2.00 a bag is the norm.

Maid
Some guides say to leave one large tip at the end of your stay but maybe this is unfair. You may have several different maids during your stay due to their work schedules and assignments, and your tip could go to someone who didn't touch your room while you were there. Plus doesn't it make more sense to reap any benefits of your generosity (such as extra towels, etc.) while you're still there?
So leave a $3.00 to $5.00 tip each day particularly if it involves extra effort on the maid's part.

Room Service
$3.00 to $5.00 depending on how fast you get your order. Either write "Tip=$5.00" on the room check or they'll gladly take a chip from the hotel's casino.

Buffet Waiters(Waitress)
The buffets usually have waiters or waitresses bring you your drinks, and refills are no problem. Tip $2.00 to $5.00 depending on how attentive they are.

Cabbies
15% is the normal rate but you may want to add a couple bucks if you ask for advice on a good place to play or eat.
Don't try and hail a cab in front of a hotel/casino. The cabbies will only respond to doormen. Get your cab through them and tip doormen a buck or two (more for more people).

Valet Parking Attendant
If you're driving, valet parking attendants usually get $1.00 to $3.00 depending on how fast they are.

Gilley's, with its old-saloon flavor and well-worn wooden floors, draws big crowds for barbecue, mechanical bull riding, and line dancing. An expansive, terraced sundeck surrounds a large pool in the courtyard, and it’s quiet enough there to hear birds singing. The pool is seasonal, but the adjacent spa tub is open year-round. The 65,000-square-foot casino of this Las Vegas Strip hotel includes a Bingo room overlooking the pool area.

History

The property started as a nightclub called "Pair O’Dice" that opened in 1930. It was subsequently rebuilt and renamed the "Hotel Last Frontier" in 1942. On April 4, 1955, it was renamed the "New Frontier," following a modernization of the resort.

The resort has the distinction of hosting Elvis Presley's first Vegas appearance in 1956, and the final performance of Diana Ross and The Supremes on January 14, 1970.

On September 22, 1967, the resort was purchased for about $14 million by billionaire Howard Hughes, who then shortened its name to "The Frontier". Mr. Hughes purchased the resort from the previous owners, which had also included Steve Wynn in one of his early ventures when he first moved to Las Vegas.

Bilionaire developer Phil Ruffin bought the resort in 1998 from embattled owner Margaret Elardi and her two sons. In 1999, the name was changed back to The New Frontier.

The owner of The Plaza hotel in New York announced plans Wednesday to buy the New Frontier hotel-casino and develop a $5 billion multi-use complex on the Las Vegas Strip.

Elad Group intends to build a luxury hotel, private residence, retail and casino complex bearing The Plaza brand on the New Frontier site, Miki Naftali, company president, said in a statement.

Naftali called the 34.5-acre site across from the Wynn Las Vegas "the last available prime parcel on the Las Vegas Strip."

Phil Ruffin, the current owner of the 984-room New Frontier, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Elad was paying $1.2 billion to buy the property.

The Plaza in New York was closed in 2005 to create a mixed-use property consisting of condominiums, retail space and some hotel rooms. Naftali said the company plans to bring The Plaza brand to other cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Boston, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo and Shanghai.

The New Frontier will be demolished early next year, Elad said in the statement. Construction of the Las Vegas Plaza is expected to take three years, with an opening targeted for 2011.
